The Department of Natural Resources Management at the University of Juba is dedicated to educating professionals who understand how to sustainably manage land, water, forest, wildlife and other natural resources in South Sudan and across the region. We combine scientific rigour, field-based training and community-engaged research to prepare graduates for leadership in resource governance, conservation and sustainable development.

Academic Programmes
The Department offers a Diploma in Natural Resources Management (3 years). We are preparing to launch a Bachelor of Science (Honours) programme in Natural Resources Management in the near future.The programmes cover key themes including soil and water conservation, land-use management, forest and rangeland systems, GIS/remote sensing applications, climate change adaptation, ecosystem restoration, and natural-resource economics.

- Land-use change, land-degradation and rehabilitation in semi-arid and savanna regions.
- Watershed management, soil and water conservation, and integrated resource planning.
- Forest, rangeland and pasture management, restoration of degraded ecosystems.
- Use of GIS, remote sensing and spatial analysis for monitoring resource use, mapping and planning.
- Community-based natural-resource management, local governance, participatory planning and conflict-sensitive resource use.
- Ecosystem management in the face of climate change, and linking resource management to livelihoods and sustainable development.

Graduates from the Diploma (and upcoming BSc) in Natural Resources Management are well-placed for roles such as:
- Natural-Resource Officer or Specialist in government ministries (e.g., Environment, Forestry, Land-use).
- GIS/Remote-Sensing Technician for resource monitoring and mapping.
- Field-Project Manager for landscape restoration, watershed or rangeland rehabilitation initiatives.
- Environmental/Resource Consultant for NGOs, private sector or international agencies.

Admission Requirements & How to Apply
Admission Requirements (Diploma Programme)
- Completion of the South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education (SSCSE) or equivalent recognised qualification.
- Satisfactory passes in English and Mathematics; preference for candidates with some background in science or geography.
- Applicants from outside South Sudan must present equivalent qualifications officially translated into English if required.
- Mature-entry applicants with relevant work experience in natural-resource or environment sectors may be considered subject to approval.
